Mr. Pellegrino is a native of Utica, New York and a graduate of Utica College of Syracuse University and The University of Puget Sound School of Law, "With Distinction." While attending law school, Mr. Pellegrino was awarded the American Juris Prudence Award for Wills, Estates and Trusts awarded by the Lawyers Cooperative Publishing Company. After attending law school, Mr. Pellegrino studied in New York University Law School's Graduate Tax Law Program and worked at a Park Avenue law firm in New York City before returning home to Utica, New York in 1978 to set up practice.
He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Elder Law Section, Trusts and Estates Section and Tax Section of the New York State Bar Association, and has served as a contributor on the Board Of Advisors of "Money Whiz" Estate Planning Forum on America Online.
Mr. Pellegrino has served as chairperson of the Tax Subcommittee and The Economic Development Council of the Utica Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of the Chamber's Board of Directors. He has served three times as the President of the City of Utica Board of Education, Chairperson of the Budget & Finance Committee and the Community Relations Committee of the Board of Education and Currently is Chairperson of The Bond Advisory and Oversight Committee. He is as a Past President of the Board of Eastside Senior Citizen's Center, Past President of the Board of COMPASS, an organization of Health Care Agencies that provide free health care information to seniors, and a Founding Member and Member of the Executive Board of Directors of Compassion Coalition, Inc., which provides free food to seniors in need, a Past Platinum Sponsor and volunteer of the Alzheimer Association of Central New York, a Past Member of the Board of Directors of the Utica Symphony and President of the Board of Compassion Kids, Inc. Dick originated a volunteer tutoring program that recruited over 1100 volunteer tutors for at risk children and has served as a volunteer reading tutor.
Mr. Pellegrino has lectured to numerous community groups and has taught in continuing education seminars for Attorneys, CPA's, Insurance and Real Estate Professionals, Financial Planners and social workers on the subject of Estate and Medicaid Planning. He has taught estate planning courses at Utica College of Syracuse University, Herkimer County Community College and Mohawk Valley Community College. Dick has a full time law practice in the City of Utica, New York at 2627 Genesee Street, with a practice concentrating in the areas of Elder Law, Tax, Estate, Medicaid and Financial Planning on the corporate, personal, gift and estate tax levels, including Supplemental Needs Trusts for children and adults with special needs.
He is a regular guest speaker at senior
centers, assisted living facilities and organizations serving seniors all
over central New York, speaking on Estate Planning.
Dick loves operas, classic musicals and classic movies.
He is the originator and sole financial sponsor of the "Opera Lover's
Series", "Musical Lovers Series" and "Classic Movie Lovers
Series", for the Eastside Senior Center and Acacia
Village in Utica, New York, Claire Bridge Cottages at Alterra Villas in Clinton,
New York, Presbyterian Home in New Hartford,
New York and Hazel Carpenter Home in
Oneida, New York. Dick provides these programs free
to seniors, enabling seniors to see free operas, free classic
musicals, free classic movies as well as free estate planning
seminars.
